Ozone-Therapy Gets Thumbs Up by the People of Santiago de Cuba

As part of the Natural and Traditional Medicine treatments that are constantly applied in Santiago de Cuba, ozone-therapy services are being provided in nine municipalities of the territory.

“We only had this service at Juan Bruno Zayas Clinical Surgical Hospital. 13 devices were later acquired and we distributed one per municipality. In Santiago de Cuba City we installed three ozone-therapy devices”, Dr. Roberto Nicot, head of the Medicine and Medical Technology Division of the Provincial Healthcare Office, explained.

Ozone-therapy entails the use of enriched oxygen with medical purposes. A mix of this gas and ozone is introduced into the body in different ways so as to treat several diseases.

There are drugs in our pharmacy network that contain this product, applied in anti-fungal procedures, for external use (through the skin or mucus); as a treatment against giardia, among others.

“We also have these devices, so this product can be applied by the rectum or locally, and our people are very happy with the results. Despite the complexity of the application of medicine through the rectum, the effectiveness of this product makes the people ask for it”, Dr. Nicot said and explained that:

“It’s very positive for articular pains, myalgia, which is so hard to treat that people get used to living in pain. In this aspect, ozone’s results are pretty positive.”
The mix of these gases is also characterized by antibacterial effects and it’s also used in Santiago for ophthalmologic treatments.

In the case of Santiago de Cuba municipality, the rest of devices are deployed at “Lopez Peña” and “Josue Pais” outpatient clinics, as well as the one based in Jose Marti district, so the people can have access to the service. In the rest of localities, the devices can be found in rehabilitation halls and hospitals.
