Bertha Parle, president-elect of the Caribbean Hotel Association, referred this week to the need of striking some balance between the hotel industry and cruises in the Caribbean by possibly levying a $20 tax per person. In Mrs. Parle’s own words, the proposal is now being weighed by Caribbean governments.

The collected money –she added- will go into a fund to be used by the Caribbean travel industry in developing sustainable tourism for the entire region.

Mrs. Parle urged cruise companies to do more for the sake of tourism and the people of the region since this is the only industry that’s growing “at a no-holds-barred, white-heat pace.”
