Trinidad and Tobago Starts World Travel Market 2013 in Style

Trinidad and Tobago on day one of World Travel Market 2013 showcased why the twin-island republic gives visitors two islands and two unique experiences. Visitors to World Travel Market (WTM) held in London’s Excel Centre from November 4 to 7, were given a double dose of what it means to be a visitor to both Trinidad and Tobago.
Tobago, fast becoming an events hub in the Caribbean, announced today the signing of John Legend as one of the headline acts for Tobago Jazz Festival during the month of April 2014. Trinidad was not to be left out as the festival of Carnival, touted as the greatest show on earth was on display with two masqueraders in full regalia giving WTM visitors only a small taste of what it means to be part of Trinidad’s Carnival.
Hoteliers, tour operators and other tourism officials from both islands were able to meet with industry stakeholders and other business persons, with a view to creating the valuable linkages which will only redound to the benefit of tourism in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Tourism Development Company Ltd and the Tobago House of Assembly have placed their developmental and marketing focus on Eco Soft Adventure such as Hiking, Kayaking and one of the destination’s latest forays into adventure tourism, Zip-lining. The island of Trinidad is considered to be a birder’s paradise with 468 species of birds and excellent birding that is not seasonal, but available on a year round basis. Other areas being brought into focus are turtle watching, MICE, or Meetings, Incentive, Conventions and Exhibitions, Culture and Heritage, Sport and the City of Port of Spain which is Trinidad’s capital and the home to many edifices of historical value and splendor.
Tobago is also an eco-tourist paradise as it is home to the Main Ridge Forest Reserve which is the world’s oldest protected forest reserve that is geared specifically towards conservation. The island is also becoming a premier destination for sporting events such as cycling, golf, and water sports.
Trinidad and Tobago’s sport tourism thrust was also further underscored by the presence of two of the islands’ sporting legends in the person of cricketing legend Brian Lara, a native of Trinidad and former international footballer Dwight Yorke, a native of Tobago. Dancers from Tobago also showed off their skill and agility with the limbo dancing and then encouraged curious and excited onlookers to participate.
