Quito, Ecuador launched competitive bidding for the construction and management of a business and tourism complex including a $35 million convention center, events arena and exhibition center, said Quito Tourism Board officials. The 28-acre facility is planned for the site of the former Mariscal Sucre international airport within the 314-acre Bicentenario Park.

Haiti’s Tourism Ministry held a working meeting Tuesday with officials from Royal Caribbean about the operation of the latter’s resort in the town of Labadee. The talks focused on access to the site, increased integration of the villagers of Labadee in tourist activities and the general development of the region, according to a statement from the Ministry.

Barbados is considering offering British tourists vouchers to offset the cost of Air Passenger Duty, according to reports in the local newspaper. It said the voucher scheme formed part of a 10-point plan to boost the island's tourism industry.

Haitian President Michel Martelly and his administration are to trying to woo Fournier and others like her as they aim high to revive the country's long stagnant tourism industry with investments totaling more than $US160 million ($A176.19 million).
