Panama-based airline Copa Holding SA expects to see double-digit growth in the number of passengers this year as the carrier adds airplanes and flight frequencies with Latin American economies recovering, according to a top official.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has cut its loss forecast for major airlines for 2010 to $2.8 billion, compared to the $5.6 billion loss forecast in December 2009. IATA said the improvement is largely driven by a much stronger recovery in demand seen by year-end gains that continued into the first months of 2010. Relatively flat capacity translated into some yield improvement and stronger revenues.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, S.A.B. de C.V. said that total passenger traffic for February 2010 decreased by 6.9 percent when compared to February 2009. Transit and general aviation passengers are excluded.
Republic Airways Holdings, which last year acquired Frontier Airlines and Midwest Airlines, said that it generated 1.41 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs), a 104 percent increase from the same month last year, while available seat miles (ASMs) increased 88 percent.
