
Royal Caribbean had decided to move its Serenade and Adventure of the Seas ships out from San Juan, Puerto Rico in favor of Europe as part of a business decision to chase higher revenue and that move has some in Puerto Rico worried about the relevance of the cruise industry to the island.

International Expeditions is offering savings of to $1,000 or waived single supplements on select Galapagos Islands expedition cruises. This represents savings of up to 20 percent off regular voyage pricing.

Star Clippers is offering free roundtrip air and savings of up to $400 per person off brochure fares on select Caribbean and Costa Rica sailings during the upcoming winter season. The departures from November through March range from six to 11 days. Eleven gateways qualify for the free roundtrip air either to Barbados, St. Maarten or Costa Rica.

Royal Caribbean International said it will invest approximately $300 million over the next three years to upgrade its fleet and add innovations introduced on its Oasis-class ships. The revitalizations will include new onboard dining and entertainment options, as well as Wi-Fi, iPod docking stations and more.

Crystal Cruises has marked down fares on its Oct. 25 New York-Miami Caribbean cruise even further, with savings of up to 67 percent off brochure fares. Fares for the 12-day sailing on Crystal Symphony now start at $2,995 per person, including $1,000-per-couple shipboard credit.

Carnival Cruise Lines reached a social media milestone on July 1 when it gained 1 million fans on its Facebook page (www.facebook.com/carnival). The line said it is the first cruise line to reach that mark. The company uses Facebook as a fan engagement tool, and over the past two months, nearly 300,000 fans said they “like” Carnival. It launched its Facebook fan page in 2007.
