Over 200 expositors have gathered for the Seventh Caribbean Tourism Marketplace that got underway Tuesday at the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel in Santo Domingo with a view to spur up the region’s leisure industry.
The event included professional working sessions, presentations of tourist products and business rounds, among other activities.
Attendants will focus on congress tourism and the promotion of its cultural, sport and nature modalities.
Some 150 Cuban and foreign experts linked to the leisure industry will huddle on the island nation to discuss the sector’s development and impact on world economies, a source close to the event revealed.
According to local weekly Options, the gathering will take place in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba within the framework of an international event on tourism management and development scheduled for May 28 to 31.
The World Tourism Exposition scheduled for Mexico City from Sept. 24 to 27, garnered significant media hype at the Cuban Tourism Convention. The exhibit’s general coordinator Wendy Hesketh laid out the details of the event that hopes to gather representatives from over two dozen countries from the Americas.
The fair will take place at the Banamex Center in the Federal District and will be organized by Mece Frankfurt, a major fair and tradeshow planner.
For the first time ever, Mexico will play host to the Your Travel Expo beginning next May 24 that will open up a window of opportunity for the nation’s companies and associations likened to the leisure industry. These firms could display their travel packages and provide consulting services to both tour operators and vacationers.

The sixth annual Grenada Spice Jazz Festival, to be held this year from May 31 to June 8, will be spicing up the Caribbean music scene. Unlike previous years, the 2003 event will focus strictly on local and regional Caribbean talent, rather than international artists from outside of the region.
This new format will also help differentiate the Grenada event from other numerous jazz festivals held throughout the Caribbean. In addition to some of the hottest jazz, the 2003 Grenada Spice Jazz Festival will also present local culinary arts and indigenous arts and crafts.
