UN Tourism, alongside the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts of Sarawak and sponsored by the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, hosted the 18th Asia-Pacific Executive Training Programme on Tourism Policy and Strategy in Kuching, Malaysia. The programme welcomed officials from 20 Asia-Pacific nations to reimagine luxury tourism in line with each country’s unique resources, economic standing, and sustainability goals.

Luxury Tourism Market Forum
The event launched with the UN Tourism Forum on Luxury Tourism Market, featuring a keynote from UN Tourism Consultant Angeline Tang. High-level representatives from public, private, and academic sectors engaged in discussions on luxury tourism policies at regional and global levels, setting the groundwork for tailored strategies.

Core Focus: Investment and Marketing
Across four interactive sessions, experts explored strategies for post-pandemic luxury tourism, covering destination management, personalized customer service, and targeted marketing. Sessions emphasized digital marketing, AI-driven data insights, and investment guidelines as pillars for developing a strong luxury tourism brand identity.

Unique Brand Development
Participants highlighted the importance of aligning luxury tourism branding with each destination’s distinct assets. Member States discussed ways to use digital tools and AI to enhance these identities and connect with luxury travelers effectively.

Experiences Beyond Opulence
Sessions underscored the shift from pure opulence to curated, meaningful experiences. The discussions emphasized that personalized, exclusive, and sustainable experiences are essential for today’s luxury travelers, with human touchpoints adding irreplaceable value.
