Spain’s meteorological agency, AEMET, has issued red, orange, and yellow warnings for regions including Valencia, Castellón, and Tarragona. Forecasts call for extreme rainfall—up to 300mm—with risk of flash flooding.

Popular tourist areas and beach destinations are especially vulnerable, including parts of the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands. Authorities have closed schools, libraries, and suspended outdoor activities.

The weather system is influenced by remnants of Hurricane Gabrielle, which have brought moist air over eastern Spain, amplifying the risk.

Flooding has already been reported in low-lying areas, and travel disruptions are expected: roads may be closed, and public transport affected.

Tourists in the affected zones are being urged to stay indoors, avoid driving through flooded streets, and heed local safety instructions.

This alert highlights how weather events—even those far from tropical origins—can have major impacts on tourism infrastructure and visitor safety in Europe.
