CTO Chairman Offers Statement on Influenza A

Although the Caribbean has yet to be affected by the influenza A, John Maginley, chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), says the Caribbean is taking every precaution.

“While the influenza A virus has not been reported in the Caribbean, member countries have already begun adopting measures for greater surveillance to prevent the virus from spreading to the region,” Maginley said in a written statement.

According to Maginley, the CTO has been in contact with the Caribbean Epidemiology Center (CAREC) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as with member countries.

Travelers planning visits to the Caribbean should also visit the websites of individual member nations for any further information on individual policies and screening procedures relating to prevention of the influenza A.
