As part of their visit to Havana and after attending the traditional 9 o’clock cannon shot ceremony -a symbolic event that reminds the curfew the Spanish colonial rule used to impose on the city every night before closing the wall gates- the 100 travel agents and tour operators attending the Meier’s Mega Fam Trip were treated with a very special dinner offered by Cuba’s Tourism Ministry.

The feast took place at the “Divina Pastora” restaurant in La Cabaña, an old Spanish fortress by the bay, with superb service for everyone. Just a few yards from the restaurant, the guards that carried out the cannon shot ceremony stood in two lines at the entrance and locked the tips of the rifles to make a welcome arch for the invitees. The speaker of the squad uttered the welcome words on behalf of the island nation’s “governor.”

Once inside the restaurant, the guests were received with warm words by Cuba’s Deputy Tourism Minister Maria Elena Lopez, who wished them an unforgettable night. Mrs. Lopez assured all participants that from now onward Cuba will be high on their lists of travel destinations as they will get a competitive edge for better marketing.

Other high-ranking officials from the Tourism Ministry and senior representatives from local incoming travel agency Gaviota also attended the dinner.

The night was capped with a superb musical performance staged by the Ecstasy Quartet, a vocal group whose varied repertoire ranges from Brazilian music to Cuba’s finest songs. The guests wrapped up the night dancing to the beat of Chan Chan.
