The Caribbean Hotels Association (CHA) urged the region’s media organizations to keep the proposed creation of the Caribbean Sustainable Tourism Fund in their above-the-fold headlines and primetime news in an effort to both let this industry continue its socioeconomic development and help preserve the regional environment.
Caribbean carrier, Air Jamaica, will send its top executives to the Caribbean Media Exchange on Sustainable Tourism (CMEx), slated for Almond Beach Village in Barbados, December 4-8, 2003.
US Airways expanded its Caribbean service from Boston. As of Oct. 26, the Boston-San Juan service goes daily, up from twice a week. On Feb. 14, the carrier will begin service four times a week from Boston to Montego Bay as well as once-weekly service to both Aruba and Nassau.
Bertha Parle, president-elect of the Caribbean Hotel Association, referred this week to the need of striking some balance between the hotel industry and cruises in the Caribbean by possibly levying a $20 tax per person. In Mrs. Parle’s own words, the proposal is now being weighed by Caribbean governments.
Just a reminder: Air Jamaica will reschedule its five-times-a-week flight from Orlando to Montego Bay, Jamaica, for an 8:50 a.m. departure so that passengers arrive at 10:35 a.m. That will be in time to connect with the carrier´s onward services to 10 Caribbean destinations. Jimmy Vaccaro, one of the gaming industry´s best-known linesmakers, has been named senior director of race and sports book operations at Atlantis, Paradise Island. He will be responsible for operating the new Pegasus Race & Sports Book at the Atlantis casino, which recently opened at the destination resort.
