Intelligent investment in emerging markets and renewable energies, the development of new, innovative technologies and access to knowledge are all decisive in enhancing tourism’s competitiveness and its contribution to global growth, development and job creation. These areas provide the focus for UNWTO activities at the International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR 2011 (Madrid, Spain, 19-23 January 2011).

Another year on, FITUR, in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Scientific Experts on Tourism (AECIT), has announced the Tribuna Jorge Vila Fradera Award. The award gives recognition to and encourages the best unpublished works on tourism carried out in the academic fields in both Spain and Latin America. The extraordinary quality of the studies presented in the ten previous editions has consolidated the prestige of this recognition, converting it into a sector reference point.
