interCaribbean Airways Launches Nonstop Flights Between Grenada and Georgetown
interCaribbean Airways has announced the launch of a new direct route between Grenada and Georgetown, Guyana, starting on December 1, 2024. This new connection, operating twice a week, aims to improve connectivity between the Eastern Caribbean and South America, facilitating both tourism and commercial exchanges between the two nations.
The flights will depart from Maurice Bishop International Airport in Grenada at 12:20 PM on Thursdays and Sundays, arriving at Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Georgetown at 1:50 PM. The return flights will leave Georgetown at 2:35 PM, reaching Grenada at 4:10 PM. All flights will be operated by an Embraer ERJ 145 with a 50-passenger capacity.
“This direct service marks a significant milestone for regional connectivity. We are linking cultures, boosting trade, and creating new opportunities for tourism and business. The convenience of nonstop flights will save time and make travel more accessible,” stated Trevor Sadler, CEO of interCaribbean Airways.
The route is being introduced at a time when both Grenada and Guyana are seeing increasing interest in trade and tourism. According to Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority, this connection is crucial for strengthening the relationship between the two nations. “It not only facilitates travel but also promotes growth and collaboration between our people,” Roach added.
This announcement follows a major event in August in Grenada: the unveiling of interCaribbean’s ATR 42-500 with a custom design featuring Grenada’s flag on its tail. Named the “Spirit of Grenada,” the aircraft was presented during a ceremony at Maurice Bishop International Airport, attended by government officials, including Prime Minister Honourable Dickon Mitchell and Minister of Tourism Honourable Adrian A. Thomas.
The plane, registered as VQ-TGD, symbolizes the airline’s deep appreciation for Grenada’s continued support. Lyndon Gardiner, Chairman of interCaribbean Airways, emphasized that the “Spirit of Grenada” reflects the airline’s commitment to connecting the island and the wider region. “We stand in solidarity with the people of Grenada and reaffirm our dedication to serving this resilient nation,” Gardiner said.
