Costa Rica Taps New Tourism Minister
Maria Amalia Revelo Raventós has been chosen as the Costa Rica’ s new tourism minister by the newly elected president Carlos Alvarado Quesada.
She will be replacing Mauricio Ventura as head of the department. Raventós holds more than 40 years of experience in the country’s tourism sector and held several positions of high responsibility in both the public and private sectors.
Earlier she was the deputy manager and marketing director at the Costa Rican Tourism. Here, she developed and implemented main key marketing strategies to promote the tourism industry in Costa Rica.
She has done her master’s degree in business administration from the prestigious INCAE Business School and a bachelor’s degree in statistics from the University of Costa Rica.
As tourism minister she will be promoting medium-sized and small companies, look after the development of new local destinations and products. There will be a special focus on culture and gastronomy and the strengthening of the joint work between the public and private sectors. Sustainability will be a defining factor in all her actions in the ministry.
Raventós held the position of commercial director at Aeris Holding before the appointment.
