Quintana Roo to Add 15,000 New Hotel Rooms
The Mexican state of Quintana Roo, home to world-class Cancun, is making plans to enhance its stock of hotel rooms over the next five years with the addition of 15,000 new accommodations.
The announcement was made by Eng. Dario Flota Ocampo, state undersecretary of tourism promotion, who also told Caribbean News Digital about some major investments for the state’s extra-hotel network that are currently underway.
“Three years from now, we’ll have eleven new golf courses in addition to the seven courses that the state already has. That’s definitely going to give the destination a wider edge,” Mr. Ocampo pointed out.
“We’re also building huge fairgrounds near the international airport and we’re working harder to be a part of the Formula I International Racing Circuit –Mexico’s Grand Prix- that’s going to take place in Cancun,” he went on to explain.
On the other hand, visitors will have over 150 different tour packages to choose from, all of them offering once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to know not only the region’s countless natural attractions, but also the legacy of the Mayan civilization.
As we speak, Quintana Roo has some 60,000 hotel rooms that lodge approximately 6 million tourists every year, nearly a third of them from the domestic market.
In addition to that, as many as 3 million passengers each year arrive in Cozumel Island, the world’s number-one cruise seaport.
