The International Tourism Fair of Cuba, FITCuba 2018, opened Tuesday in Santa Maria Key off the northern coast of central Cuba. The event comes around as an exclusive business opportunity not only for this country, but also for the Caribbean region.

The event organizers are extremely hopeful as a result of emerging expectations in terms of participants which is anticipated to go beyond 3,000, in addition to 140 specialized journalists.

The main leaders of all the important travel agencies and Canadian tour operators will be present at the fair to bear out their stance as Cuba’s top outbound market.

Miguel Bernal, marketing director at the Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) highlighted the fact that Cuba remains focused on and committed to cracking the 5-million-tourist plateau in 2018.

By the end of last year, Cuba had reeled in way over 4.6 million international tourists, the highest number in the history of the country. The UK will be this year's guest country of honor.

As a result, in that period Cuba grew 16.2 percent, reporting an uptick of 3.5 to 4.0 percent from most of the countries in the world.
