Girasol Overseas S.A.: The Nectar of Quality

Putting his smart money on Cuba; that was the idea of Luigi Crisci, president of Girasol Overseas S.A., a Panama-based Italian company specialized in the production and marketing of different lines aimed at processing tropical fruits and canned food.

That’s been the origin of his ties with the largest island of the Caribbean for over two decades. That’s the reason why he attended HostelCuba 2016, a fair organized by both Fira Barcelona and Pabexpo, where Mr. Crisci shared his experiences with entrepreneurs from around the globe and strengthened his hold on the Cuban market.

“Our products meet the highest quality standards, since we begin in the land and pay close heed to the growing and harvesting processes. My father was an Italian canner. My grandfather was a canner too. That’s the origin of my passion for this world. I have seven siblings and they are all entrepreneurs. Moreover, we own lands in Italy, where the fruits we use to make canned products and nectars are grown”, Mr. Crisci says.

“We’ve been very pleased to take our experience from Europe to the Americas. We have a huge market in Cuba and my expertise has helped me make incursions here and obtain good outcomes.

“We manage several citrus lines in this country and other lines are undergoing a process, with new technologies and a knowhow we happily share, while we learn from the Cuban experience and its contributions,” he explained.

According to the Italian executive, there is great expertise on canned products in Cuba, there are excellent professionals, “so I think that the future of the industry in Central America is here. This island is not asleep at the switch and its future is quite promising,” he underscored.

“We’ve already requested a space at the Mariel Special Development Zone in order to build a pineapple concentrate factory. We have three in Brazil. We’re working to thrive and help Cuba as well.”

“Within four years or so, if the pace remains the same, Cuba is going to sweep everybody off their feet in terms of exports and economic growth, especially because the country is carefully assessing each step it takes, applying the right technology, investing with safety and security.”
