Three Americans Start Kayaking from Havana to Key West

At dawn this Monday, May 28, kayakers Andy Cochrane, Wyatt Roscoe and Luke Walker began their journey aboard three kayaks from the headquarters of the Hemingway International Yacht Club of Cuba, where Commodore Escrich said goodbye to them and wished them success.
These three youngsters propose themselves, in this second attempt, to establish a record of rowing for 30 hours without relief and without rest. The first attempt was made on July 12, 2017, but a strong electrical storm forced them to desist from the effort.
Before leaving, they reiterated that they will use their skills to establish this record and, at the same time, transmit a message that contributes to the expansion of friendly relations between the peoples of Cuba and the United States.
The original idea for the Cuban project came a couple of years ago when we saw, explains Cochrane, our good friends from Cotopaxi trying the same crossing. They rowed the 113 miles in tandem kayaks, with one of their five boats making it from Havana to Key West.
"Inspired by their efforts, we began to think of a way to do something similar. As far as we know, nobody has completed the solo crossing in a kayak, "said Cochrane.
