A new Cruise Liner, ‘Thomson Dream’, with about 1,700 passengers from the United Kingdom, made its inaugural trip to Jamaica docking at the Montego Bay Freeport’s shipping pier on Thursday (December 30).

Carnival Cruise Lines unveiled its “Hey America, Didja Ever” campaign that inspires people to try new things to add more fun to their lives. Carnival will promote first-time experiences throughout the year, driven by the “Didja Ever” campaign headquarters on Carnival’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/carnival) and through broadcast, online, social media and local marketing efforts.

Crystal Cruises is offering two overland excursions during the Crystal Symphony’s Feb. 7 South America voyage. The four-night jaunt to Pantanal -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s largest wetlands -- offers horseback-riding, canoeing, hiking and even piranha fishing. The one-night escape to the Pousada Vila D’este resort in Buzios allows guests to lounge on beaches along protected waters.

Award-winning travel companies Adventures by Disney and Disney Cruise Line have once again teamed up to offer immersive vacation opportunities for families aboard select Disney cruise vacations in 2011. The Adventures by Disney experience is available as an upgrade booked in advance of the cruise that features privately-guided tour packages in Mediterranean or Alaskan ports of call or a pre-cruise adventure at the port of embarkation.

A delegation from Antigua and Barbuda attended the European cruise industry trade show, in France, from November 30 to December 2. According to President of the Antigua and Barbuda Cruise Tourism Association, Nathan Dundas, says the event was very successful, since discussions were held with major cruise lines.

Not many technological marvels are still operating just as they were almost 100 years ago. Detroit and the auto industry have certainly come full circle since the inception of the assembly line in 1914. The Panama Canal, however, continues to serve as a vital link between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans just as it was when it transited the first ship in 1914.
