Jennifer Chernay, a travel consultant from Kahala Travel, was one of over ten U.S. travel agents who embarked on their first trip to China. While visiting Shanghai's Yuyuan Garden, she marveled at the blend of ancient traditions and modernity, capturing photos with a puppet panda against a backdrop of traditional pavilions and towering skyscrapers.

From September 9 to 20, the U.S. delegation explored iconic Chinese cities like Beijing, Xi’an, Chongqing, and Shanghai. This immersive experience, reflecting a growing trend in "China Travel," gave agents an in-depth look at China's rich cultural heritage and advanced infrastructure.

In Xi’an, Chernay was particularly impressed by her visit to the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum, home to the famed Terracotta Warriors. She and her colleagues even had the chance to craft miniature figurines, an activity that left a lasting impression. “The craftsmanship of ancient China is truly awe-inspiring,” she shared.

Gabriel Valeriano, from California’s Elite Voyages, praised China’s efficient public transportation system, noting the convenience of high-speed trains and subways for tourists. He highlighted the appeal of blending historic sites with modern attractions in cities like Beijing and Shanghai. His agency is now planning cruise tours connecting China, Japan, and South Korea, leveraging China’s 144-hour visa-free transit policy.

Bo Lin, a representative from CTG Travel, which organized the tour, explained that this visit aimed to strengthen tourism ties between the U.S. and China, building on the success of the 14th China-U.S. Tourism Leadership Summit held earlier this year in Xi’an.

China’s tourism market is showing significant growth, with foreign visitor numbers up by 129.9% in the first seven months of 2024, reaching 17.25 million. Recent improvements in visa policies and mobile payment systems are expected to further boost international tourism to the country.
